[The ball tonight has been in full swing for an hour now, and Athrun, clad in a fine black suit and red tie, finds himself wandering the ballroom alone. As an officer and ace pilot, he had been obligated to attend, though he came solo, unlike most of the other people close to his age here. Most of them had come from the academy in the city, and had come with dates. In fact, some of the couple interactions were beginning to grind on his nerves. He felt awfully out of place.

To get away from the festivities for a moment and just to breath in some crisp, fresh night air, Athrun steps out onto the balcony. It's one of a few, and the others had plenty of attendees present. Not this one, though. There was just one girl there by herself.]

Ah, I'm sorry if I'm disturbing you. I just wanted to step outside for some fresh air.

[Athrun smiles at Pyrrha apologetically as he walks up to the balcony railing and leans against it. Now that he's closer, he can get a better look at her. He could tell she was beautiful at first glance, but upon closer look, he couldn't help but wonder if she was the most beautiful girl at the party.

Not that it matters too much to him. She probably is here with her boyfriend, after all. Maybe he went to the men's room, or he's getting drinks for them. Of course, what Athrun doesn't know is that Pyrrha also showed up solo tonight.]

Oh... no, it's all right. You're not disturbing anything.

[Pyrrha smiles an awkward little smile. She's never been that good at socializing, especially with people she's just meeting for the first time. She knows who he is, of course - Athrun's name is known to all of the students at the academy. It's actually something they have in common, as Pyrrha is one of the top students as well.]

All right. I just wanted to make sure.

[Athrun gazes out at the city sprawled before them. Everything looks peaceful from here, even to his trained eyes.]

How have you been enjoying the party? Have you been having a good time?

[pole_position]

Oh, yes! It's just lovely.

[Pyrrha lets out a small sigh as she joins him, looking out over the lights of the city. It's clear her heart isn't entirely behind her words of approval, though, and even her smile is somewhat wistful.]

[It's too easy for Athrun to pick up on Pyrrha's dissatisfaction. He doesn't know if she's a bad liar or just that upset. He turns his head toward her, a look of curiosity on his face.]

Doesn't sound like everything is going well judging by your response. Did something bad happen?

[pole_position]

[It's a mild disappointment more than anything, mixed with a bit of loneliness.]

No, nothing like that. I just...

[Pausing for a moment to collect her thoughts, Pyrrha turns to him with a somewhat guilty smile. She never was very good at deception.]

...well, I suppose I feel more at home in combat boots than high heels.

[Athrun mulls that over for a moment, and lets his eyes look Pyrrha up and down once more. He would never know it just by looking at her.]

I see. For what it's worth, you could have fooled me. And I'm versed in both combat and etiquette.

[He allows his body to turn away from the view and toward her, though he still leans against the rail.]

But at the same time, I know what you mean. It's not a fact I'm proud of, but I feel like I'm in my element more when I'm inside a cockpit than at a formal gathering. I'm trained in manners and proper behavior, but to be honest, I've never been very good with people.

Still, you're around your fellow students a lot, right? Are any of your friends here?

[pole_position]

[Pyrrha just smiles politely, rubbing at her elbow as he looks back at her, a slight blush rising to her cheeks.]

I suppose that means I'm doing well.

[She allows herself a light laugh at her own expense as she turns to face him fully.]

A few of them, yes. But I wouldn't want to interrupt anything.

[A curious choice of phrase. Interrupting?]

Are you saying they all have dates?

[If Pyrrha is worried about interrupting her friends, that seems to be the most logical reason why. But, by the same token, that would mean that she doesn't have a date.]

Yes, that's right. I wouldn't want to be a third wheel.

[Athrun pretty much nailed it.]

I can understand that. But at the same time, you really do deserve to enjoy yourself tonight.

[It's hard to believe for Athrun that a girl as gorgeous as Pyrrha is could end up going to a ball alone. Either she turned down all of her suitors, or they simply didn't ask her.]

Hey, how would you feel about a dance with me? Would that be all right?

[pole_position]

A... a dance?

[Pyrrha's eyes go wide at the offer, the blush on her cheeks rising all the way up to her ears.]

Y-yes! Of course! That is... if you don't mind.

[infinitejustice]

[Watching Pyrrha's reaction makes Athrun smile. He can't resist it. That being said, he also blushes a little bit himself.]

If I minded, I wouldn't have asked.

I guess I should introduce myself, shouldn't I? My name's Athrun. What's yours?

[As he speaks, he gestures to the door back into the ballroom with his hands.]

Ah... yes, I suppose that's true.

[So awkward. But she smiles back all the same.]

It's nice to meet you, Athrun. I'm Pyrrha. Pyrrha Nikos.

[Her smile widens a bit as she reaches out to offer him her hand.]

The pleasure is mine, Pyrrha.

[Athrun smiles back seeing Pyrrha smile. That's what he'd hoped to see. When she offers her hand, he takes it, and leads the way back inside.]

Would you mind telling me more about yourself?

[pole_position]

I'm not sure what I can tell you that you don't already know.

[She may be modest, but she is aware of how relatively well-known she is around the academy.]

Honestly? Probably quite a bit. Most of the time I'm too embedded in my work to pay much attention to what goes on around the academy. I've heard your name before, but not a whole lot more than that. Well, aside from your being extremely talented.

[pole_position]

Well... there's not much more than that, really.

[Oh she of extreme modesty.]

I graduated at the top of my class and tested into the program. But... that's probably something you already knew too, isn't it?

[She's bad at talking about herself.]

Levy

Tsubomi couldn't help but stretch in tiredness. It had been quite a long day and all she wanted to do right now was relax. Just do something that wasn't heavy lifting in any sort of the matter.

Even if she wanted to go back to dealing with her flowers.

For now, she opted for hunting down a certain someone...

"Levy? Levy, are you here?" Tsubomi called out, roaming around the place in curiosity.

[scriptrix]

[Levy comes out from the back with her usual bright smile. She's always in a good mood when Tsubomi is around.]

Right here! What's up?

[bag_has_snapped]

Ah, good...!

[And once get gets close, Tsubomi... wraps her arms around Levy and slumps down against her.]

Tiiiiired...

[scriptrix]

Well, I've got the best remedy there is for that.

[Giggling, she leans in to kiss her girlfriend on the cheek.]

[bag_has_snapped]

Oh...!

[She giggles at the kiss, blushing before she returns the kiss.]

Th-that's why I always come to you - you know how to handle things...

[scriptrix]

I do my best.

[Levy smiles, taking Tsubomi's hand and leading her into the back - to the private room they so often use.]

So, what'll it be today? Cuddles? Foot massage?

Hee... how about cuddling? We haven't had any of that in awhile and I think it'll be best to do so while we can, hm?
