[Sayaka and Madoka are out grabbing a burger over what has mercifully turned out to be a slow weekend for hunting witches in Mitakihara. There's clearly been something on Sayaka's mind the entire time they've been eating, and she's been doing her best to ignore it, but it's the third mention of Homura's name that seems to set her off.]

...I'm not hungry anymore.

[The sudden declaration is punctuated by Sayaka slamming both hands down on the table where they're eating, and without waiting for a reaction, she stands up and starts charging angrily toward the door.]

[Madoka frowns for a second, but soon gets out of her seat as she chases after Sayaka, yelling out her name as she does so.]

Sayaka-chan...! Wait up!

[But she knows that something is wrong. And she wants to know why.]

[Sayaka ignores Madoka until she's all the way out of the fast food place, wanting to at least avoid making a scene inside if she can help it. But as soon as they're both outside, she whirls around to face her friend.]

Wait up? Why? Wouldn't you rather be hanging out with someone else anyway?

[friendzones]

Huh?

[Madoka blinks twice, tilting her head to the side as she says so. Her mouth is wide open in surprise, unsure of what Sayaka exactly means.]

O- of course not! Sayaka-chan... you're my friend.

But I'm not your best friend, am I? I don't think I ever really was.

[friendzones]

Wha...

[Her look of surprise soon turns into shock and she remains silent for a few seconds, choking on the words she wants to say. Just hearing that from Sayaka hurts her, deep down, and she doesn't want to fight with her best friend.

Especially not her.

Even though she's not usually courageous, Madoka manages to muster up as much courage as she can, balling up her hands into tight fists as she manages to scream, shout, just to make her hear her voice, not only through her ears but through her heart.]

Th... that's not true, Sayaka-chan! You were the one who I always relied on at school! You're my best friend, and I know that! I know that I'm not strong, and sometimes I'm not good at things, but... with you by my side, I know that I'll be okay!

If... you weren't there... I don't know what I'd do.

Just... just stop, okay?

[Sayaka's gone from angry to depressed, her mood whiplash setting in from all the stress she's been under lately and the fact that she hasn't been purifying her Soul Gem.]

I know you and Homura have some kind of weird... thing going on. I don't even know what to call it. But you keep hanging out with her even though she's dangerous! You can't stop talking about her! How is that supposed to make me feel, Madoka?

[There are tears welling up in her eyes as Sayaka clenches her fists at her sides.]

We've been friends forever! Ever since grade school! And all of a sudden this other girl comes along and you start obsessing over her... even after what she said about Mami!

[friendzones]

What...

[Her voice is shaky, and it's cracking. She doesn't know what to say, what she should say. Instead, she starts to sob, sniffling a little.]

I can't believe you'd say that, Sayaka-chan... I'm not -- I'm not like that! I just want everyone to get along...

I'm doing my best, you know... but I'll never be as strong as Mami. I miss the way things were before. Before we knew about any of this. It's so hard, Madoka... it's really hard!

[friendzones]

It's okay, Sayaka-chan. It's okay.

[She gives her a soft smile in reply. She knows it's hard, defeating witches, knowing what they really are.

But she'll walk right up to Sayaka, wrapping her arms around her for a hug.]

You don't have to be as strong as Mami-san. All you have to do is be yourself, and work together with everyone. I'm here for you. I won't leave if you don't want me to.

[knight_of_discord]

But I'm not good enough!

[She's still frustrated, but not enough that she won't accept that hug, returning it tightly and bawling into her friend's shoulder.]

You're good enough for me, Sayaka-chan. It's okay, it's okay.

[She'll pat Sayaka on the back, smiling. She knows that she sometimes feels the same way, that she's not good enough as a magical girl.]

But I have to be good enough for everyone! For the whole city! I can't do it all alone...

[friendzones]

You don't have to do it on your own. I'll help you.

[Even if she may or may not be a magical girl herself, what timeline is this even.]

O... okay...

[Sayaka hugs her friend tighter, clinging desperately to Madoka as her only remaining emotional anchor.]

I'm sorry for snapping at you, Madoka.

[friendzones]

Ehehe...

[Madoka laughs it off, feeling a bit awkward. But no matter, everything's fine now, and she's just glad that they're friends once again.]

It's okay, Sayaka-chan. I'm fine, you're fine. We're all okay now.
